COURSE DESCRIPTION

This qualification reflects the role of individuals in the accounting and bookkeeping industry, including business activity statement (BAS) agents and contract bookkeepers; and of those employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organizations in a range of industries. It includes preparing and lodging business and instalment activity statements, data processing, monthly reconciliations, preparing budgets, preparing reports on financial performance and the position of the business, preparing end-of-year adjustments, and finalising financial records after year-end. Dealing with the Commissioner of Taxation on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to activity statements and other lodgement matters is also a key component of the role that this qualification reflects. Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist skills and knowledge to work autonomously, and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities.

LICENSING/REGULATORY INFORMATION

Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the relevant regulator for specific guidance on requirements Persons providing a BAS service for a fee or other reward must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and this qualication is currently cited as meeting the TPB education requirements for registration as a BAS agent. Other requirements apply, including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.

The volume of learning for the qualification is 600 hours. This comprises of:

• Learning Hours – 356 hours
• Assessment – 244 hours

This course will be delivered over 36 weeks of course duration including 30 weeks delivery and 6 weeks holidays. Students are required to attend a minimum 20 scheduled course contact hours per week.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

Knowledge Questions, Research Report/Project, Case Study role play and Practical Observation/ demonstration including use of MYOB for financial reporting.

PATHWAYS FROM THE QUALIFICATION

After achieving this qualification, candidates may undertake FNS50222 – Diploma of Accounting.

The test must have been taken no more than two years* before you apply to study at AEC.

i. International students applying for this course either off-shore or on-shore will require either a minimum IELTS test score of 6.0 or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course. or IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 10 weeks) to be taken before the main VET course. or IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 20 weeks) to be taken before the main VET course.

ii. To provide evidence that they have studied in English for at least five years in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or United States.

iii. To provide evidence that, within two years* of their signed written agreement date, they have successfully completed in Australia a foundation course or a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or a substantial part of a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification, from the Australian Qualifications Framework.

iv. Students must successfully score equivalent to IELTS 6 in the Oxford English Placement Test.

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

To enter FNS40222 – Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping: Entry to this qualification is limited to those who have successfully completed year 12 or senior secondary studies in applicant’s home country equivalent to Australian senior secondary school examination. LANGUAGE, LITERACY AN

LANGUAGE, LITERACY AND NUMERACY TEST (LLN)

Students undertaking this course must possess sound language, literacy and numeracy skills since course requires leaners to review business activities statements, prepare financial reports, set up accounting systems, create and maintain payroll systems, create spreadsheets and to do calculations or any other course related work.

To determine the above skills, all students wanting to study at AEC are required to undertake LLN test prior to the commencement of the course. Based on the test outcome, students may be identified as requiring internal support and/or external support.

LLN test will be conducted on campus by using an ACSF mapped online LLN assessment tool – LLN Robot under the supervision of qualified LLN assessor. All students are required to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy test (LLN) according to the following qualification: FNS40222 – Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping ACSF Level 4
